What does EDV means?
The **Electronic Diversity Visa Program** is a program by the US State Department that allows people from eligible countries to apply for a visa lottery online¹. The program is also known as the **DV Program** or the **Green Card Lottery**. The program aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by selecting applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
The rules and the process

No late entries or paper entries are accepted. The law allows only one entry by or for each person during each registration period. The Department of State uses sophisticated technology to detect multiple entries. If an applicant submits more than one entry, they will be disqualified.
After the registration period ends, the Department of State randomly selects applicants from each region for further processing.
